Sumita Mahtab-Shaikh

Sumita is a successful practising barrister, called to the Bar in 2001. She has 20 years’ experience in Crime and Family Law and membership of Criminal Bar and Family Bar Associations. She was granted dual-qualification and qualified as a Duty Solicitor in 2018. She combines a busy practise as a leading Junior at the Bar, with work in the Magistrates Court and police station for Abbott Forbes. She is accredited under the Law Society Criminal Law Accreditation Scheme. Most of her deal’s cases are serious and complex crime in the Crown Court, including historical sexual offences, drug supply offences and serious violence. She has also appeared in the Court of Appeal in 2017 when new guidelines were set for child-abduction cases.
She attends regular Professional Development courses in Crime and Family Law.
